History - interest in a Lutheran Church in North Baltimore began in 1896, when parishioners gathered in Henry’s Opera House for Sunday worship. In May of 1897 a hall was rented and furnished, Sunday School conducted, and regular services held. On July 25, 1897 the organization of the new congregation with 29 members was formed. The constitution and formula of government provided by the General Synod of the Lutheran Church was adopted and the name St. Luke’s was chosen for the local congregation. The congregation met in a new building in the fall of 1901 and built a Parish House, “Luther Hall” in 1959. The original church building was demolished in 1971 and the congregation moved into the present church building (attached to Luther Hall) on September 12, 1971. St. Luke’s members and friends celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the congregation on July 25, 2022. |
Our Mission St. Luke’s exists to serve God by serving people as a faithful response to Him. We do this by proclaiming Jesus Christ through worship, education, fellowship, and loving concern for our neighbor. |
Our vision is “To know Christ and to make Christ known.” |
